Tension continue rise in pharma sector
Tensions continue to rise in the pharmaceutical sector as labor unrest shows no signs of easing. Protests have led to the suspension of operations in 25 major drug manufacturing plants, sparking concerns among business owners about a potential medicine shortage if the situation is not resolved soon. For now, however, the supply of drugs in the market remains unaffected.
After negotiations with workers, several factories, including Square Pharmaceuticals and Incepta Pharmaceuticals, are expected to resume production today, Friday. However, uncertainty lingers regarding when Healthcare Pharmaceuticals and a few other plants will reopen.
In an interview with The Shuttle Times, Abdul Muktadir, President of the Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI), mentioned that the sector has yet to return to normalcy. A sense of unease persists among some entrepreneurs and workers, and Muktadir emphasized that only once the overall law and order situation improves will the pharmaceutical industry challenges be fully addressed.
