Diploma medical professionals demand creation of new posts in healthcare sector

Diploma medical professionals have urged the government to create new posts in both government and private healthcare sectors to address the growing unemployment crisis in their field. They also called for necessary revisions in the course curriculum, correction of existing inconsistencies, and the approval of internship allowances.
These demands were raised at a press conference held at Pabna Press Club, jointly organized by the Bangladesh Diploma Medical Association (BDMA), General MATS Students Unity Parishad, and Bangladesh Diploma Private Practitioner Association. The event aimed to bring attention to several pressing concerns regarding the employment and education of diploma medical professionals.
Speakers at the conference emphasized the urgent need to fill vacant positions and replace the proposed Allied Health Professional Board with a Medical Education Board, which they believe would better represent and safeguard the interests of diploma medical professionals. They also stressed the importance of establishing higher education opportunities in accordance with international standards under the guidance of the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC).
During the discussion, it was highlighted that the Diploma in Medical Faculty (DMF) is a four-and-a-half-year medical course, and graduates receive BMDC registration, allowing them to practice medicine, surgery, and gynecology/obstetrics as per regulations. However, despite their qualifications, thousands of diploma doctors remain unemployed and face financial hardships. The Diploma Medical course was first introduced in 1976 to enhance healthcare services in rural and remote areas, and diploma doctors have long been deployed in Upazila Health Complexes and Union Health Centers. Over time, however, the employment situation has deteriorated, necessitating immediate government intervention.
The keynote speech at the conference was delivered by Md. Motiur Rahman, President of BDMA, Pabna District Committee. Md. Abdul Hannan, former President of BDMA, Pabna District Committee, attended as the chief guest, while Md. Johurul Islam, Secretary of BDMA, Pabna District Committee, conducted the program. A large number of diploma doctors attended, showing their unity and determination to seek urgent solutions to their challenges.
The organizers urged the authorities to take immediate action to resolve these issues and ensure a secure future for diploma medical professionals across the country.
