DMP bans processions, rallies in around CJ residence, selected areas

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today enforced a ban on all types of rallies and processions in some new areas in the capital inclding in front of the house of the Chief Justice. A DMP statement said the new areas that came under the ban in front of the Chief Justice Bhaban, Judges Complex, Bangladesh Supreme Courts main and Majar and Jame Mosque gates, the entrance of the International Crimes Tribunal and the Judicial Administration Training Institute building. It said the ban would come into effect from today and continue until further notice. DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali signed the public notice saying the restriction was imposed under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, 1976, in view of the recently emerged situation and maintaining law and order. Earlier on May 10 DMP imposed a ban on public gatherings, processions, and rallies in the areas surrounding the chief advisers official residence and Bangladesh Secretariat, Hotel Intercontinental intersection, Kakrail Mosque intersection, Officers Club intersection, and Mintoo Road. The DMP has again requested all concerned not to obstruct traffic by blocking roads to mount pressures to realise demands and stage protests programmes.
