ILO introduces awareness campaign for TVET enrolment
Dhaka ILO News- In 2021, the ILO Skills 21 project funded by the European Union supported the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) in consultation with TVET institutes to develop a campaign strategy and plan for a continuing TVET awareness campaign to increase the popularity of TVET among young people.
This National TVET Awareness campaign has successfully been implemented in all divisions of the country till date by DTE and the TVET institutes in all divisions of Bangladesh, supported by the ILO Skills 21 project and funded by the European Union.
In the closing ceremony of the TVET Awareness Campaign held today 13 March 2023 in Dhaka, the Education Minister Dr.Dipu Moni was present as the Chief Guest. She received all the campaign tools and materials on behalf of the Education Ministry to continue the campaign to increase the youth enrolment in TVET institutes.
Dr. Dipu Moni, Minister of Education commended the campaign approach and results achieved, and she urged DTE, the TVET institutes and local stakeholders to continue the campaign, as the country needs a skilled workforce for economic development and TVET is instrumental to achieving this objective. ‘’This campaign approach effectively raises public awareness of the importance of technical education and boosts TVET enrolment figures from all wakes of society,’’ she added.
Tuomo Poutiainen, ILO Country Director for Bangladesh emphasised the importance of the Government’s continuation and expansion of the TVET awareness-raising campaignnationally and in TVET institutes in order to enhance public understanding of the importance of skilled employment and to increase the appeal of TVET to young people in order to increase TVET enrolment.
He pointed out that the ILO Skills 21 project support to the Government, financially supported by the EU had enabled the development, piloting and implementation of the campaign from 2021-2023 and that the ILO now looks to the Government to continue this ongoing TVET awareness-raising campaign at national and local level, applying the communication tools and the capacities built in the TVET institutes and in other local stakeholders. He added that ‘’the campaign should continue at regular intervals in all TVET institutes, particularly during their enrolment periods. This will require the TED and DTE, to do annual campaign planning and budgeting.
