UGC to hold regional higher education conference in Dec
University Grants Commission (UGC) will hold a three-day regional higher education conference in December this year in the capital involving representatives of the University Grants Commission in the SAARC member states. The UGC authority took the decision at a meeting held here today with UGC Chairman Professor D. S M A Faiz in the chair, said a press release. UGC members Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Prof. Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Senior Education Specialist of the World Bank TM Asaduzzaman, Lead Economist of the World Bank in South Asia Dr. Harsha Aturupane, Director of Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project Prof. Dr. Asaduzzaman attended the meeting, among others. The meeting decided to invite Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to attend the conference as the chief guest. A steering committee has been formed to make the conference a success. Besides, representatives from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states, vice-chancellors, scholars and educationalists from SAARC countries will take part in the conference. With the financial support of Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation project, the conference will be arranged to unite the regional UGC networks and strengthen cooperation aiming to enhance the quality of higher education and research collaboration.
