NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025 kicks off

For the 12th time, the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), in collaboration with the BASIS Students Forum, is set to host the NASA Space Apps Challenge 2025 Bangladesh edition. In celebration of the event, BASIS held a press conference on Thursday, 20 February 2025.
The press conference at the BASIS Auditorium was attended by BASIS Associate Committee Chairman Rafel Kabir, BASIS Associate Committee Member (Admin) Md. Emrul Kayes Porag, Md. Mostain Billah, and AHM Rokmunur Zaman Rony. Also present were the advisors for the NASA Space Apps Challenge Bangladesh edition, Mohammad Mahdee Uz Zaman and Ariful Hasan Apu.
Organized under the auspices of the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the event aims to unite talented technologists, scientists, designers, artists, educators, and entrepreneurs from 185 countries to craft innovative solutions to global challenges. As part of this initiative, students from nine cities across Bangladesh—Dhaka, Chattagram, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Cumilla—will participate in this grand hackathon. Over the past 11 years, Bangladesh has proudly secured the world champion title four times, including three consecutive wins, a record that underscores the nation growing prowess in innovation and technology.
In preparation for the event, various activities will be held at universities nationwide. A series of workshops and seminars are planned to further nurture students creative ideas, while an online data boot camp will enhance participants technical and data analysis skills. Competing teams will also benefit from dedicated technical support and will be paired with expert mentors to refine their projects in anticipation of the main hackathon. Starting today, interested individuals can participate through the link: https://nsac.basis.org.bd/. BASIS Associate Committee Chairman Rafel Kabir commented, “BASIS has consistently organized the NASA Space Apps Challenge to showcase Bangladesh innovative strength and technological expertise on a global stage. Achieving world champion status four times—including three consecutive wins—is a testament to our young talent. We are confident that once again, Bangladesh students will captivate the world with their creativity and innovative solutions. Each competition offers new learning opportunities and sparks fresh innovations. Our students excel in every field, and I am optimistic that they will also lead in space research and secure significant recognition.”
BASIS Chairman added, “We are continuously working to create new opportunities for our students. This year marks our 12th participation in the competition, and I am confident that our competitors will make our nation proud on the international stage once more.”
Mohammad Mahdee Uz Zaman stated, “We are planning to engage 200,000 students in this year challenge—not only through social media but also via direct participation in the competition. This is not merely a contest; it is a unique platform for fostering innovative thinking and addressing global challenges. The workshops and seminars across various universities will open new horizons in problem-solving, while the online data boot camp and expert mentoring will support project development. Competitions like these are vital as benchmarks of progress in technology education. Bangladesh youth have already proven themselves on the international stage; now, it is our time to demonstrate just how skilled we are in creativity and innovation.”
