    Banglalink signs agreement with Labaid Hospital

    Banglalink Orange Club members can get 20% discount on pathological and biochemistry investigations and 10% Discount on X-ray, CT scan, MRI, Ultra-sonogram, ECG, Echo, and ETT investigations at both Labaid Specialized Hospital and Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Speciality Center. This discount is not applicable for the patient who will be admitted to Labaid Cardiac Hospital and/or Labaid Specialized Hospital. However, a 10% discount on bed charges while the patients are admitted to Labaid Cardiac Hospital and/or Labaid Specialized Hospital can be availed as well.
    To avail this discount, customers need to type “BLLAID” for Labaid Specialized Hospital and “BLLCH” for Labaid Cancer Hospital and Super Speciality Center and send it to 2012. The offer is valid till 20 July 2023.

    Drive against illegal diagnostic centers to improve healthcare facilities: Maleque
    Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Wednesday said the government is conducting drive against unauthorized clinics, diagnostic centers and private hospitals across the country for improving standard of healthcare services.
    “There are 11,000 diagnostic centres in the country....we are conducting drive against illegal diagnostic centers to avert victimization and harassment while receiving healthcare facilities,” he told a discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) here.
    Maleque said both public and private hospitals are playing an important role in providing treatment facilities to the people.
    He said Bangladesh has become a role model for controlling coronavirus as the country successfully handled three waves of the deadly virus.
    “When almost the entire world was struggling to combat the lethal virus...we have taken multiple measures under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to protect lives of the people from the disease,” he said.
    The health minister said, “Bangladesh has so far inoculated nearly 26 crore doses of vaccines.”
    He attributed the controlling of third wave of COVID-19 that hit Bangladesh mid-January this year, to expansion of vaccination coverage including booster dose.
    On May 26, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued a notification to seal all unauthorized clinics and diagnostic centers across the country within 72 hours. The health authority said legal action will be taken against the persons, who are involved with illegally running diagnostic centers and clinics.

    US COVID-19 cases six times more than last yr
    LOS ANGELES, May 31: As the United States marks Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer, the seven-day average for COVID-19 cases in the country are more than six times what they were a year ago, according to a report of The Hill.
    The Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center reported a seven-day average of 119,725 COVID-19 cases as of Saturday. That figure held at 17,887 cases on May 28 of last year, according to the report.
    Experts believe the real count of cases is much higher as many were underreported due to at-home COVID-19 tests.
    Health officials said the United States amid another COVID-19 wave. They have warned Americans to exercise caution ahead of a possible surge.

    DGHS Drive: 116 unregistered hospitals sealed across the country
    The local administrations of Faridpur, Bagerhat, Magura, Keraniganj, Thakurgaon, and Kurigram districts have shut at least 116 unregistered clinics, hospitals, and diagnostic centers following the directions of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.
    Of them 42 were sealed in Sherpur, 26 in Faridpur, 25 in Bagerhat, 15 in Magura, five in Keraniganj, and three in Kurigram according to local authorities.
    On Thursday, DGHS directed the authorities concerned to close all unregistered clinics, private hospitals and diagnostic centres across the country within 72 hours.
    No clinic, private hospital and diagnostics center will be allowed to run their activities until they get a license, said the health authority.
    A team of the health service division led by Faridpur district Civil Surgeon Dr Md Siddiqur Rahman shutted down 26 diagnostic centers and clinics at sadar upazila, Modhukhali upazila, Boalmari upazila, Saltha upazila, Nagarkanda upazila, Bhanga upazila and Sadarpur upazila. Another 15 hospitals have been warned, said the authority.
    Bagerhat District administration sealed 25 illegal hospitals and fined a total of 35 hospitals with Tk 5.22 lakh while conducting a drive in the nine upazilas of the district.
    Magura Civil Surgeon Dr Md Shahidullah told this correspondent they have closed 15 illegal clinics and diagnostic centers while conducting a drive at different places in the district and arrested a fake doctor.
    Md Moshiur Rahman, Keraniganj upazila health and family planning officer said on the second day of the drive five clinics and diagnostic centers have been shut and four of them have been fined with Tk 2.55 lakh. Also a fake doctor has been sentenced with six month’s imprisonment, he said.
    Kurigram Civil Surgeon Monjur Murshed said they have sealed three hospitals in the Kurigram municipal area during a drive against the unregistered clinics and diagnostic centers.
