Bangladesh erupts in protest against Israels oppression of Palestinians
Students, leaders and activists of different political parties and common people have started demonstrations at various points in solidarity with the oppressed people of Gaza.
In some places, the protesters formed human chain and some groups held protest procession and rally, demanding immediate stop of the ongoing genocide and mass destruction in Gaza.
Yesterday, Bangladeshi student leaders have called for a nationwide No Work, No School campaign for today.
The other protest programmes include strikes in educational institutions and workplaces and demonstrations in the capital and other cities.
No classes and examinations were held at Dhaka University and university offices would be closed from 9:00am to 11:00am today as per announcement.
Students, common people even children thronged in front of TSC and started demonstration against the genocide in Palestine.
They chanted slogan against the aggression by the Israel force.
Many were carrying Palestine flags.
Talking to reporters, a protesters said, "We took to the streets as world leaders forget Palestine people. We want freedom of the Palestinian people and trial of the Israel leaders for war crimes."
Teachers and students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) formed a human chain on the campus, with a demand to free the Palestine and stop genocide there.
In line with the global strike Brac University students held a protest rally in front of the university, holding placards and banners to stop brutality in Gaza.
Talking to reporters, a female student of the university said they took to the street in solidarity with the Gaza people as they are being killed brutally there.
Employees of many privately run institutions also brought out process in different points including Science Lab, Bosila and Uttara areas.
Many were heading towards Central Shaheed Minar where several organisations scheduled their programmes through out the days.
Apart from the ongoing programmes, different organisations will hold protest programme throughout the day.
Additional police members have been deployed to ensure security at the diplomatic zone in Gulshan and Baridhara areas.
The programme followed a global call to action by Palestinian activists, urging schools, universities, offices, and courts to shut down simultaneously to demand an immediate end to the violence.
In response, students from dozens of institutions across the country yesterday announced the suspension of academic activities in protest against the brutality on the Gaza people. Dhaka University (DU) and Rajshahi University (RU) authorities officially backed the strike.
Since Israel launched its offensive on Gaza -- a 365-square-kilometre enclave of 2.4 million people -- on October 7, 2023, at least 50,695 Palestinians have been killed and 115,338 others wounded. According to the United Nations, nearly 69 percent of Gazas buildings have been destroyed or damaged.

These include the killing of civilians, particularly children and women, and the widespread destruction aimed at displacing Palestinians from their homes
