Ban on battery-run rickshaw: Drivers set police box on fire in Mirpur

Drivers of battery-run three wheelers set a police box on fire at Kalshi intersection in the city Mirpur area on Sunday during demonstration against banning the vehicle on Dhaka streets.
Duty office of Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters, Shahjahan, said the drivers set the police box on fire around 4:15 pm.
On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot around 4:32 pm and brought the situation under control.
Mukhlesur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Pallabi Police Station, said necessary steps were taken.
The drivers of battery-run three wheelers staged demonstration blocking roads in Dhaka Mirpur, Pallabi and some other areas on Sunday morning, obstructing traffic movement in the area.
The protesters also vandalised some buses passing in the Mirpur area after 2:30 pm. A chase and counter-chase between police and protesters also took place.

US hinted at restoring GSP facilities on conditions: FM

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Saturday said that US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu assured him that Washington would return the GSP facilities to Bangladeshi products if the government did some reforms in some areas.
“He spoke with me about how to take the relationship forward in bilateral meetings,” said the minister.
US Assistant Secretary Donald Lu visited Bangladesh on a “positive note” to deepen Dhaka-Washington ties.
At the same time, they have a special fund aimed at overcoming the global economic recession. From there they also said to help Bangladesh, said Hasan Mahmud.

NEC approves Tk 2.65 lakh crore ADP for FY25

The National Economic Council (NEC) today approved a Taka 2.65 lakh crore Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the next fiscal year (FY25), putting the highest allocation of Taka 70,687.75 crore (26.67%) in the transport and communication sector.
The approval came from the meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) today with its Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the NEC Conference Room in the city Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Division Senior Secretary Satyajit Karmakar said that of the total ADP outlay of Taka 2,65,000 crore, Taka 1,65,000 crore will come from the local sources and Taka 1 lakh crore from foreign sources.
The original ADP size for the outgoing fiscal year (FY24) was Taka 2.63 lakh crore.

Airbus keen to build long-term tie with Bangladesh

European commercial aircraft manufacturing giant Airbus is interested in building a strong and long-term collaboration with Bangladesh to contribute to the sustainability and advancement of the country aviation sector.
This proposal was came up while visiting Airbus Executive Vice President (International) Wouter van Wersch held a meeting with the civil aviation and tourism minister Muhammad Faruk Khan at the secretariat here.
The Airbus Vice president was accompanied by French Ambassador to Bangladesh Marie Masdupuy and British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke.
