AL will not be allowed to contest elections: Mahfuj Alam

Interim government adviser Mahfuj Alam has said anti-Bangladesh Awami League fascists will no longer be allowed to participate in elections.
“If Awami League returns to power, fascism will also return,” he said while addressing a street rally in Hajiganj Bazar area of Chandpur town on Saturday.
Mahfuj said only pro-Bangladesh political parties including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami will take part in the elections.

Yunus focuses on mechanisms to hold free, fair polls

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has stressed the need for establishing a mechanism so that everyone in Bangladesh can vote freely and fairly, without any interruptions or threats.
He put the emphasis during a one-on-one conversation with the founder of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday.
While sharing the background stories of the July mass uprising with the global audience, the Chief Adviser said the students took to the streets in Bangladesh in the July last year with a simple demand-equal opportunity for jobs.
He narrated how the students during their protest painted graffiti on the walls of Dhaka, expressing their desires and dreams.
Dr Yunus said all the young people who became voters over the last 16 years did not get a chance to vote, which is very unfortunate.

Buyers happy with declining winter vegetable price

City grocery markets are abandoned with winter vegetables, bringing smile in the face of buyers as prices are downward.
“Vegetable price are now going down considerably and most of the vegetables are being sold between Tk. 30 to Tk. 50 per kg.
Buyers are happy with the price while vendors are also happy for higher sale,” a seller at Mohammadpur Krishi Market told BSS today.
Radishes are being sold at Tk. 30 per kg, bean at Tk. 40 per kg, potato at Tk. 30-35 per kg, tomato at Tk. 40 per kg, cauliflower and cabbage are being sold at Tk. 20 to Tk. 30 per piece in different markets.
Cucumber is being sold at Tk. 40 per kg, carrot at Tk. 50 per kg, green chilli at Tk. 50 per kg, papaya at Tk. 40, bitter gourd at Tk. 50, lemon at Tk. 30 every four pieces and gourd at Tk. 50 to Tk. 70 per piece.

Heads of reform commissions review key proposals at meeting

A meeting was held today at the office of the Constitution Reform Commission to review and coordinate the recommendations from commissions that have already submitted their reports to the interim government.
The meeting was convened to discuss both the short- and long-term recommendations made by the commissions in their reports. Key participants in the meeting included the heads of several reform commissions, who shared their insights and suggestions regarding the proposed reforms.
Professor Ali Riaz, Head of the Constitution Reform Commission, led the discussions, joined by Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Head of the Electoral System Reform Commission; Safar Raj Hossain, Head of the Police Administration Reform Commission; Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Head of the Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission; and Justice Md. Emdadul Haque, representing the Head of the Judiciary Reform Commission.
