
Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin today expressed hope that the upcoming High-Level Conference under the aegis of the UN, to be held in New York, would offer innovative solutions over the Rohingya crisis.
He made the remarks as UNHCR Executive Committee Chair Ambassador Marcelo Vazquez-Bermudez met him at the foreign ministry here, said a ministry press release.
During the meeting, they discussed the Rohingya crisis highlighting funding shortages, Myanmar political situation, the UN Secretary-General recent visit to Bangladesh, and efforts for repatriation of Rohingya people.
They emphasized on the urgent need for enhanced international support to effectively address the crisis.
The Foreign Secretary emphasized Bangladesh continuous diplomatic efforts.
The Foreign Secretary highlighted the strain on host communities and called for greater global cooperation, stressing Bangladesh commitment to repatriation of the Rohingyas.

From now on, the CIB (Credit Information Bureau) report will have to be verified to approve any amount of agricultural loan or extend the loan tenure.
Earlier, a CIB report was not required for agricultural and rural loans up to Tk2.5 lakh.
On Sunday (Mar 23), the Agricultural Credit Department of Bangladesh Bank issued a directive in this regard.
According to the directive, if a loan is disbursed without verifying the CIB report, the bank will not be able to know even if the customer takes multiple crop and crop loans of a maximum amount of 2.5 lakh taka from different banks.

Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki on Sunday revealed the preparations for this year Bangla New Year celebrations, emphasizing greater inclusivity and diversity in the festivities with participation from various cultural entities.
"After working for 40 years, this is the first time I have been invited to such a meeting," said Miles band frontman Hamin Ahmed, during a preparatory discussion at the Secretariat on the upcoming celebrations on Sunday. Sharing this example, Farooki noted in a post on Facebook that this was a first-time experience for many others as well:
"For the first time, representatives from diverse ethnic communities, alongside artists from various musical traditions, sat together at the Secretariat on Sunday to brainstorm for the festival. Attendees included members of bands, classical music groups like Surer Dhara and Chhayanaut, the Islamic cultural organization Saimum, and representatives from the Garo and Marma communities."

The Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 will be held from April 7 to 10 at InterContinental in the city, showcasing the country evolving investment opportunities and economic reforms.
The summit aims to showcase Bangladesh investment potential, highlight the economic reforms following the July revolution, and create long-term investment pipelines for sustainable economic growth.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will formally inaugurate the summit in the presence of ambassadors, top business executives, and policymakers on April 9.
During a press briefing at the city Foreign Service Academy, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun today shared that the summit has already attracted over 2,300 registered participants from 50 countries, including more than 550 foreign investors.
