14 killed when a truck hits auto-rickshaw, private car in Jhalakathi

At least 14 people were killed and several others injured when a speedy truck hit several vehicles in Gabkhan Bridge area of Jhalakathi Sadar upazila this afternoon.
The accident took place around 2pm when the truck ploughed through several vehicles including a three-wheeler and a private car, officer-in-charge of Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Shahidul Islam told journalists.
He said six people died on the spot and six others succumbed to their injuries at Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital.
Two more succumbed to their injuries at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) where 11 wounded persons were taken after the accident, SBMC Director Dr Saiful Islam.

14 killed as bus-pickup collide in Faridpur

Fourteen people, including four from the same family, have been killed in a bus-pickup van collision in Faridpur on Tuesday that would not have happened if operators of the vehicles involved had followed existing laws and rules.
Of the deceased, seven are men, three are women, and three are children.
“A Unique Paribahan bus going to Jashore from Dhaka collided with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction in the Diknagar area of Faridpur Kanaipur upazila around 8am,” said Md Morshed Alam, superintendent of Faridpur Police.
He also said at least two others were injured in this accident. They were quickly rescued and admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur.
Morshed said that as soon as they were informed, Faridpur Highway Police, Fire Service, and police teams arrived at the spot and carried out rescue operations.

Brazil can import RMG directly from Bangladesh: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today called upon Brazil to import directly Readymade Garment (RMG) products from Bangladesh.
"RMG goods from Bangladesh have been being exported to Brazil on a limited scale through the third party. It will be more affordable for Brazil if the country directly imports RMG items from Bangladesh," she said.
The premier came up with the remarks while a delegation of Brazil led by its Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira paid a courtesy call on her at her office here this morning.

Four including 3 KNF members held in Bandarban

BANDARBAN: Police arrested four members including a woman of the armed group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) over bank robberies of the district last night.
Additional Superintendent of Police Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi said that police arrested three KNF members and a car driver suspected of involvement in bank robbery from Thanchi upazila.
The arrested were identified as Bhanunan Nuam Bom of Raunin Para of Rowangchhari upazila, Geminiu Bom of Simtlang Para of Thanchi Union, Ame Lancheo Bom and driver Mohammad Kofil Uddin resident of T&T Para of Thanchi upazila.
