National Pension Authority website inaugurated

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali today inaugurated the administrative website of National Pension Authority (NPA).
The website is www.npa.gov.bd, said a press release.
State Minister for Finance Waseqa Ayesha Khan was present as the special guest, while senior officials of the Finance Division and officials of the NPA were also present.
NPA Executive Chairman Kabirul Ezdani Khan presided over the inauguration ceremony.

PM visit will be milestone: Chinese envoy

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Thursday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visit to Beijing will be another milestone in the history of China-Bangladesh bilateral relations.
"This visit will surely inject vibrant impetus into the bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields, and promote new achievements in the Strategic Partnership of Cooperation between China and Bangladesh, and elevate the relationship to a new height," he said.
The Chinese envoy made the remark at the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) flagship event DCAB Talk at the Jatiya Press Club here.

Millions affected as flood situation worsens

After several days continuous heavy rainfall, several northern districts in Bangladesh have been affected by flood while the third spell of devastating flood battered northeastern regions, affecting millions of people.
Major rivers in north and northern districts are overflowing due to torrential rains triggered by active monsoon, which submerged much of regions, leaving several lakh of people stranded, officials and residents told BSS today.
The third wave of devastating flood battered wide swaths of two north-eastern districts Sylhet, Sunamganj and other parts of Bangladesh as third round of flood hit northeastern parts in a shorter time meaning this unusual phenomenon has already affected life and livelihood, they said.

JICA host Memorial Ceremony for Holey Artisan Incident

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organized an annual memorial ceremony to pay condolences to the seven Japanese consultants who lost their lives during the Holey Artisan attack on July 1, 2016. The ceremony was held on July 3, 2024, at Metro Rail Exhibition and Information Center (MEIC), located in the capital Uttara area.
The seven lost Japanese had significantly contributed to the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project. In his ceremonial address, HARA Shohei, Senior Vice President, JICA, said, “Eight years have passed since the tragic incident. I am filled with the deepest sadness and regret at the loss of all those who dedicated their invaluable time and efforts to the development of Bangladesh. Our hearts go out to the bereaved families who suddenly lost their loved ones, and it is truly heartbreaking to reflect on their grief that can never be truly healed even after eight years since the incident.”
During the speech, he also shared JICA pledge to never forget their contributions to the project and their legacy, and to ensure utmost safety of those engaged in the operations. Since its opening in December 2022, Dhaka Metro Line 6 has been a staple in the lives of Dhaka citizens, carrying approximately 350,000 daily passengers. Today, Dhaka Metro is a symbol of development of Bangladesh due to its convenience and safety. JICA will continue international cooperation towards the development of developing countries including Bangladesh, as well as peace in the international community.
