PM opens universal pension scheme

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today inaugurated the much-talked-about Universal Pension Scheme to bring all the people of the country aged above 18 under the scheme.
She initially opened the pension scheme - Pragati, Surokkha, Samata and Prabashi--- joining the inaugural programme virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence here in the morning.
After launching the scheme, the premier said, "We opened the Universal Pension Scheme in the Month of Mourning. Initially four schemes out of six were inaugurated today as two other schemes will be launched later".
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be happy from heaven seeing that her government is trying to give his people a beautiful and improved life, for which, he dedicated his entire life, she said.

Old militants are reorganizing to destabilize the country: RAB

A number of former militants are trying to reorganize to destabilize the country, said the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin.
Addressing a press conference at RAB Media Centre in city Karwan Bazar this afternoon he said that tomorrow (August 17) is the 18 years of the serial bomb blasts across the country.
“Militancy has been inactive during last few years but in recent times the militants are again trying to destabilize the country by reorganizing themslves,” Al Moin said.
He said that the main mandate of the elite anti-crime force is to contain, eliminate by arresting the militants.
So far, a total of nine militant organizations have been banned in the country including the recently banned militant organization Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya.

Police foil Jamaat attempt to hold gayebana janaza for Sayeedi

Police foiled Jamaat-e-Islami effort to hold a gayebana janaza for convicted war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayeedi after Zohr prayers at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the city today.
When Jamaat and Shibir activists were trying to gather in front of Baitul Mokaram Nation Mosque, police dispersed them. The Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked police with brickbats that triggered a chase and counter-chase in the area.
Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division Police Hayatul Islam Khan told media that the unruly Jamaat-Shibir activists launched attack on police and hurled brickbats. Police charged batons to disperse them, he added.
Police detained 10-12 Jamaat-Shibir activists from the spot.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq said Jamaat-e-Islami was not given permission to hold ghayebana janaza of Delwar Hossain Sayeedi as Jamaat-Shibir activists launched attacks on police, vandalized police vehicles over the transportation of Sayeedi body to Pirojpur last night.

National Mourning Day observed recalling Bangabandhu

The National Mourning Day and the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed today across the country and Bangladesh missions abroad with due respect and solemnity.
Bangabandhu and most of his family members were brutally killed by some disgruntled army men on the fateful day of August 15, 1975 and this carnage is touted as the ugliest chapter of the nation history.
Father of the Nation two daughters Sheikh Hasina, now Prime Minister, and Sheikh Rehana escaped the planned assassination as they were staying abroad at that time.
The government drew up elaborate programmes in observance of the day at the national level.
The national flag was hoisted half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous and educational institutions and private buildings including Bangladesh missions abroad.
