Putin wants Ukraine ceasefire on current frontlines

Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to halt the war in Ukraine with a negotiated ceasefire that recognises the current battlefield lines, four Russian sources told Reuters, saying he is prepared to fight on if Kyiv and the West do not respond.
Three of the sources, familiar with discussions in Putin entourage, said the veteran Russian leader had expressed frustration to a small group of advisers about what he views as Western-backed attempts to stymie negotiations and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy decision to rule out talks.
“Putin can fight for as long as it takes, but Putin is also ready for a ceasefire – to freeze the war,” said another of the four, a senior Russian source who has worked with Putin and has knowledge of top level conversations in the Kremlin. He, like the others cited in this story, spoke on condition of anonymity given the matter sensitivity.

Cyclone Remal creates tension at coastal areas

For generations, thousands of people have been living at risk along the coast in Bagerhat. When the water levels rise, parts of Rampal, Mongla, and Morrelganj upazilas are flooded and water enters homes, leaving them in suffering.
The existing embankments are relatively low, so they overflow during high tides, causing residential areas to flood. During storms and tidal surges, the suffering of locals in these areas becomes unbearable.
The news of Cyclone Remal approaching has caused anxiety among the locals. To address their concerns, the Water Development Board has proposed constructing 185 km of new embankments in various areas of the district.

Recovering MP Azim body almost impossible: DB chief

Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, the alleged mastermind in the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anar, had been plotting for three months to kill MP Azim, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.
Speaking at a press briefing in the capital on Thursday, he said the criminals took 30 minutes from 2.51pm on 13 May to kill the Bangladeshi MP.
Shimul Bhuiyan, a leader of the extremist organisation Purba Banglar Communist Party, was the main hitman, Harun said, adding that he had obtained a fake passport with the name Amanullah to disguise his identity.
According to the DB chief statement, Shahin, along with his cohorts, held a meeting in a Gulshan or Bashundhara residence and planned to kill MP Azim in Bangladesh but the accused feared they could get caught doing so.
