Grameen Bank submits allegation to ACC against Yunus

Grameen Bank Deputy Managing Director Pradeep Kumar Saha submitted the application on Sunday on behalf of the bank board of directors.
Barrister Masuda Akhter, legal advisor of the bank, was with him at the time.
Briefing reporters, Pradeep Kumar Saha said in the nineties, when Dr Yunus was the chairman of Grameen Bank, Packages Corporation Limited was given a loan of Tk9.5 crore without adhering to the rules and regulations.
In addition, Yunus also gave printing-related work worth crores to the family-owned business without a tender.

2 journos convicted for publishing false info

A Dhaka tribunal today convicted two journalists in a DSA case filed over publishing false and defamatory information.
The convicts are SM Morshed, editor of the weekly Aparadh Bichitra, and its senior reporter Ezaz Rahman.
Judge AM Julfiker Hayet of the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka delivered the verdict in the presence of the two at the courtroom, Mamun Sikder, stenographer of the tribunal told The Shuttle Times.
According to the judgement, Morshed was fined Tk 2 lakh, in default of which he had to serve six months imprisonment, while Ezaz was fined Tk 1 lakh, defaulting he had to serve three months in jail.

Over 8 lakh people evacuated as cyclone Remal approaches: Mohibur

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohibur Rahman today said over eight lakh people were evacuated to cyclone centres and other safer places, as the severe cyclone Remal may hit Bangladesh coastline between 6pm and midnight today.
“We have taken all necessary measures on an urgent basis to tackle the severe cyclonic storm . . . all relevant organizations have been asked to work in a coordinated manner to face the cyclone,” he made the comments at a press briefing held at his ministry here.
He said the authorities today launched an intensified evacuation campaign to take all vulnerable people to safety as the met office asked Payra and Mongla ports to hoist great danger signal no 10 while it issued nine for Coxs Bazar and Chattogram ports this morning.

Cyclone Remal makes landfall: died 1

Cyclone Remal has made landfall in Bangladesh, crossing Patuakhali Khepupara area and West Bengal Sagar Island with rain and strong stormy winds.
Meteorologist Dr Shameem Hassan Bhuiyan of Met office said Remal starting crossing Patuakhali coasts from 8:00pm today.
The eye of the cyclonic storm is scheduled to cross Bangladesh between 12:00-1:00am Monday after which the cyclone is expected to weaken.
Maritime ports of Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist Great Danger Signal 10.
The coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalokati, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali and their outlying islands and chars will be under the purview of Great Danger Signal 10.
Maritime ports of Chattogram and Coxs Bazar have been advised to keep hoisted Great Danger Signal 9.
Coastal districts of Chattogram, Coxs Bazar, Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur and their offshore islands and chars will come under Great Danger Signal 9.
