
The Christian community here today celebrated the Christmas in Bangladesh as elsewhere in the world with festivity and religious fervour commemorating the birthday of Jesus Christ.
The Christian people offered special prayers on the day with illuminating churches and installing makeshift Christmas trees at homes and places of worship and missions.
Elderly people of the community, attired in the outfit of Santa Claus, usually make fun with children and distribute gifts among kids as part of a universal Christian practice.
Various programmes were arranged to celebrate Christmas in all churches, including St. Mary Cathedral Church in city Kakrail area and in famous city hotels including InterContinental, Pan Pacific Sonargaon, The Westin and Radisson.

Fact-checking body Rumor Scanner dubbed misleading a viral video claiming a new armed group in Myanmar as Bangladesh one.
The fact checking watchdog in an investigation found that a video of a new armed group in Myanmar is being falsified as a video of an armed group of Bangladesh.
In a report published on its website today, Rumor Scanner said recently a video of "Jemon Khushi Temon Sajo" (Dress up as you like) with the title "Usury has made the country a safe haven for militants" went viral on social media.
In the video, some people with covering their faces are seen giving speeches as words like Mujahideen and Jihad are heard to be used in their speeches. By circulating the video, it is basically being claimed that it is a video of an armed group in Bangladesh.

Dhaka will send a reminder letter to New Delhi to send ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina back, if the Indian government does not respond to the diplomatic note sent to the government of India on Monday.
“So far, we have not received any reply from New Delhi in official channel. We will wait for their response, and if no reply comes within a certain period, we will send a reminder letter,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam said at the weekly media briefing at the ministry this afternoon.
On Monday, Bangladesh foreign ministry, through its mission in New Delhi, sent a diplomatic note requesting the Indian government to extradite Sheikh Hasina for judicial proceedings in Bangladesh.

The first ever Dhaka-Chattogram fuel oil transportation pipeline is set to be commissioned towards the end of January 2025 aimed at beginning commercial operation from April, saving an amount of Tk. 236 crore in transport cost annually.
"The pipeline would not only ensure the secure transportation of fuel oil but also eliminate costs and misuse of fuel," chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Amin Ul Ahsan told BSS.
He said the 250-kilometre fuel oil transportation pipeline from Chattogram to Dhaka has been installed at a cost of Tk. 3698 crore, adding, "It has the capacity of carrying 54 lakh tonnes of diesel per year for 25 years without any major disorder. The capital requires only 27 lakh tonnes fuel oil per year."
