Govt to reward for info on Bangabandhu fugitive killers: Momen

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said the government would reward those who will provide information on fugitive convicted killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"If you can give us information, you will be rewarded," he told a discussion at Jatiya Press Club here.
Describing Canada and the USA as countries with very strong rule of law, the foreign minister said they should not give shelter to murderers.
Momen said the government will be very happy if all the killers are brought back to face justice. "But we are yet to do it. If we can, we will feel that it is a great achievement," he added.

Eggs to be imported if necessary to control price hike: Tipu

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said the government would import eggs if the price of the low-cost source of protein keeps an upward trend.
"Import of eggs will be allowed in coordination with the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock if the price of eggs cannot be controlled," he said while talking to reporters after inaugurating the sales of products, including rice among one crore family card-holders belonging to low-income groups under an initiative of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), said a press release.
The state-run agency organised the event at Mohammadpur Town Hall in the city.

e-Quality Centre for Inclusive Innovation to help bridge digital divide: speakers

A seminar on the e-Quality Centre for Inclusive Innovation was held at the state guest house Padma, highlighting the concept and objective of the centre to be launched envisioning Zero Digital Divide.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a2i jointly organised the seminar on Saturday while Chairman of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) Ambassador AFM Gousal Azam Sarker was present at the event as the chief guest, a press release said today.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin was present as the special guest at the seminar, which was attended by the members of the diplomatic corps based in Dhaka and officials of the relevant government organizations.

WHO urges swift action as dengue cases surge in Bangladesh

A significant surge in dengue fever cases has gripped Bangladesh, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Friday , calling for efforts to control the mosquito vector population and minimize individual exposure such as using mosquito repellents and wearing long-sleeved clothes.
The outbreak, which escalated rapidly since late June, has seen a total of 69,483 confirmed cases and 327 related deaths between January 1and August 7, with a case fatality rate of 0.47 per cent, according to the UN health agency. The cases were reported from all 64 districts in the country.
In July alone, 43,854 cases and 204 deaths were reported, accounting for 63 per cent of the total cases and 62 per cent of the deaths. The sharp increase in numbers is unprecedented compared to the past five years, emphasizing the gravity of the ongoing outbreak.
