Minimum voter age should stand at 17: CA

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today suggested that the minimum voter age should stand at 17 years.
"To give their (youth) opinion on their own future, I think the voting age for them should be fixed at 17 years," he said in a video message played in an election dialogue here.
Forum for Bangladesh Studies (FBS) arranged the dialogue at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh.
In his video message, Prof Yunus said different countries have various age criteria for their nationals to make them voter.
He expressed his hope that the Election Reform Commission will surely recommend such an age.

India declares 7-day mourning in honour of former PM Manmohan Singh

India is in mourning following the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who died on Thursday evening in Delhi at the age of 92 after a prolonged illness.
Singh, known as the architect of India economic liberalisation, leaves behind a legacy of transformative economic reforms and two terms as Prime Minister.
The Central Government has declared a seven-day national mourning period to honour his memory. All government programmes scheduled for Friday have been cancelled, while the Congress party has also postponed all events, including its Foundation Day celebrations, for the next seven days, as announced by General Secretary KC Venugopal.

Over 500 illegal establishments evicted from Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway

More than 500 illegal businesses and establishments have been evicted from the Chandpur-Comilla regional highway.
The eviction drive took place from Thursday morning to afternoon, led by the district administration and the Roads Department of Chandpur, targeting illegal structures built along the road in the Doabhanga area of Shahrasti upazila.
A few days earlier, traders from Waruk Bazar, Doabhanga, and Kaliapara Bazar in the upazila were ordered to remove these establishments at their own responsibility.
Shahrasti Upazila Executive Officer Md. Yasir Arafat said that the drive aims to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate smoother vehicle movement.

Secretariat fire sabotage or accident still not known: Fire service DG

Muhammad Jahed Kamal, Director General (DG) of the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), said on Friday that the cause of the devastating fire at Building No. 7 of the Bangladesh Secretariat still remains unknown.
He said, "We are not in a position to comment on whether the Secretariat fire was an act of sabotage or an accident. We are here, observing the situation, and further details will be provided after the investigation."
He made this statement in response to questions from reporters after visiting the site on Friday afternoon.
