Bangladesh rolls out red carpet as Qatar Amir arrives

A red carpet was rolled out to accord warm reception to Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani on his arrival here today on a two-day official visit as President Mohammed Shahabuddin received him.
The Head of the State welcomed Qatar Amir with flower bouquets at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital this afternoon.
Earlier, a special aircraft, carrying the Amir and his entourage members, landed at the airport at about 5pm.
A 21-gun salute heralded the Amir arrival at the HSIA while he was getting down from the aircraft.

Edu institutions close for 7 days

Schools, colleges, madrasas and technical education institution across the country and National University will remain closed until April 27 (Saturday) due to the ongoing heat wave condition.
A notice signed by M A Khair, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, has officially confirmed this on Saturday.
The notice came before the reopening of educational institutions in the country set for Saturday, after the end of Eid holidays.

3 days heat alert issued

Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a 72-hour heat alert nationwide as a heatwave is sweeping across the country.
This heatwave is expected to continue for the next 72 hours starting Friday, and temperatures may rise further.
Discomfort might increase due to high humidity, this information has been given in a warning of the Meteorological Department signed by Meteorologist Dr Mohammad Abul Kalam Mallik.
Meteorologist Tarikul Newaz Kabir said: “A temperature of 41.3° was recorded in Chuadanga, the highest in the country.”
The Chuadanga Meteorological Office reported that the temperature recorded at 3pm on Friday. This district has recorded the country highest temperature for three consecutive days.

India starts voting in the world largest election

Voters in India started casting votes in the world largest parliamentary election on Friday morning, setting off a marathon poll battle as Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a record-equaling third straight tenure in office.
In the first phase of the general elections, polling, which began at 7:00am (India time) and will end at 6:00pm, will be held for 102 Lok Sabha constituencies spread across 21 states and union territories, making it the largest among all the seven phases to be held till June 1 before counting of votes is taken up on June 4.
Over 16.63 crore voters across 1.87 lakh polling stations are eligible to cast their votes in the first phase, including 8.4 crore male, 8.23 crore female and 11,371 third gender electors to decide the electoral fate of 1,625 candidates (males 1,491 and females 134), according to the Election Commission.
