
Many journalists in Bangladesh are leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in their individual work but institutional use in newsroom operations remains nominal, according to a new assessment revealed here today.
The assessment titled "Media Metamorphosis: AI and Bangladeshi Newsrooms 2024" is an outcome of a survey of 53 journalists from 25 news outlets along with focus group discussions (FGDs) and key informant interviews (KIIs) involving 13 editors and newsroom gatekeepers from print, television, and online news platforms.
The assessment is part of an initiative by the Media Resources Development Initiative (MRDI) with support from "Digitally Right" and funded by The Asia Foundation with an aim to understand AI usage patterns, addressing ethical concerns and identifying needs and gaps
for improved AI adoption in Bangladesh news media.

The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway will transport agricultural products, including vegetables, fish and meat, to Dhaka from Rajshahi region at a cheap cost from tomorrow (Saturday).
Growers and traders can avail the scopes of transporting various perishable goods, including fish, meat and vegetables, from different parts of the region to the capital city Dhaka every day.
There are arrangements of refrigerated luggage vans along with general vans in the special train, said General Manager of West Zone of Bangladesh Railway Mamunul Islam.
The special train will depart from Rohanpur station in Chapainawabganj district at 9.15 am and will reach Tejgaon station in Dhaka at 5.20 pm. The carrying cost of per kilogram of goods has been estimated at Taka 1.50.

The Ministry of Home Affairs today formed a four-member taskforce to probe journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case following the apex court verdict.
The ministry issued a circular in this regard today.
The taskforce has been asked to submit investigation report in Sagar-Runi murder case before the apex court by six months. The taskforce can co-opt members, the circular said.
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Chief was made convener of the taskforce and three representatives, one each from the Department of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), will act as member.
