DMP chief warns stern action if chaos is created in anti-quota movement

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman today said stern actions will be taken if any chaos is created centering the anti-quota movement.
“If anyone carries out evil attempt to breach law and order, it will be dealt with iron hands,” he said while talking to the journalists after inspecting the security arrangements at Hussaini Dalan Imambara with Shia community leaders.
Habibur Rahman said quota issue is now a subjudice matter. It is the duty of every citizen to abide by the court order, he added.
“We are bound to obey court order. Police will work staying respectful to the law,” he said.

Out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure rises to 73pc: study

The out-of pocket (OOP) healthcare expenditure in the country rose to 73 percent in 2021 while it was 68.5 percent in 2020, according to the Bangladesh National Health account.
"Out-of-pocket (OOP) expenditure is one of the most noteworthy payment strategies for healthcare in Bangladesh and the share of OOP expenditure has been increasingly alarmingly," Dr Abdur Razzaque Sarker, research fellow of BIDS, told a programme here today.

Bangladesh, Belgium seal coop on cancer research, care

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Cancer Care and Research between the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital (NICRH), Bangladesh, and Bordet Cancer Institute at Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles (HUB), Belgium, was signed on Monday (15 July) in Brussels.
The MoU aims to foster strong partnership between these two institutions for conducting joint research activities and bringing specific expertise on cancer care through capacity building and infrastructure development, read a press release of the Embassy of Bangladesh, Brussels.
This MoU will be a tool for collaboration in cancer research, including basic, epidemiologic, prevention, diagnosis, screening, treatment, cancer control and survivorship research.

CBP leader Manzurul expelled from party

Former Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Manzurul Ahsan Khan, who was removed from the post of advisor and whose party membership was suspended for six months for violating party discipline, has been expelled from the party.
Ruhin Hossain Prince, general secretary of the CBP, said in the central committee meeting on February 26 that Manzurl was suspended from the advisory post and his party membership was suspended for six months.
Moreover, the committee decided to expel him from the party if he violates the party rules during that period, he said.
