The body of a newsroom editor of Gazi TV was recovered from Hatirjheel lake in the capital late at night (28 August). The deceased was identified as Rahanuma Sarah, Inspector (investigation) of Hatirjheel Police Station Sharif Niazi confirmed the matter to The Shuttle Times. Rahanuma was taken to the emergency department of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at around 2am where the on-duty doctor declared her dead, Mohammad Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police camp told The Shuttle Times. Her body was sent to the DMCH morgue, he added. A passerby named Mohammad Sagar told reporters that he saw a woman body floating in the Hatirjheel lake. Security has been ramped up at all Palli Bidyut offices and installations across Bangladesh as tensions rise among employees demanding better service terms and permanent employment status. This increased security comes as officials and employees from the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) are set to meet with the chairman of the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (REB) and the head of a Power Division committee to discuss their demands. The meetings are seen as a crucial step before any further action is taken by the employees. Around 40,000 employees and officers from 80 PBSs across the country have been vocal about their grievances, particularly since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government.
