
The government has incurred a huge amount of revenue loss due to tax exemption opportunities for the businessmen close to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
During the 16-year rule of fascist Sheikh Hasina, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) granted tax exemptions to those businessmen and their groups by issuing special circulars or SROs.
The awful scenarios of revenue loss was dug out by the Committee assigned to prepare "White Paper on the State of Bangladesh Economy" through getting to bottom of irregularities and corruption during the regime of the Awami League-led government.
The government formed the committee led by Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, distinguished fellow at Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), an independent think-tank.

President of Al-Azhar University Professor Dr Salama Dawoud welcomed Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the university campus in Egyptian capital of Cairo this evening.
Professor Dr Mahmoud Siddiq, Al-Azhar University Vice-President for Post Graduate Studies and Research, was also present on the occasion, according to a message received here tonight.
Prof Yunus is scheduled to deliver a speech at Al-Azhar University tonight.

Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today urged Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to settle the issues of 1971 to help Dhaka move forward with its relationship with Islamabad.
"The issues have kept coming again and again. Lets settle those issues for us to move forward," he said during a meeting with Pakistan premier Shehbaz Sharif at a hotel in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on the sidelines of the D-8 summit.
Sharif said the 1974 tripartite agreement involving Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India settled things, "but if there are other outstanding issues," he would be happy to look at them.
Prof Yunus said it would be nice to resolve things "once and for all for the future generations."
They agreed to strengthen relations between the two countries through increased trade, commerce, and exchange of sports and cultural delegations.

Bangladesh today offers to provide support for rebuilding the Rakhine State economy, emphasizing the importance of peace, stability, and democracy in Myanmar as a foundation for commencing the repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their homeland.
"Bangladesh has every interest to see lasting peace, stability and democracy in Myanmar, and a conducive environment in Rakhine State for the Rohingya to have confidence to go back there in safety and dignity", said Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain.
He made the call when speaking at an Informal Consultation at the Ministerial level among Myanmar and its five neighbouring countries in Bangkok, according to a message received here.
