The central bank will not print any fresh money to lend to the government for solving financial crisis, Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Ahsan H Mansur said today (24 September). "Moreover, we will no longer sell dollars from the country foreign exchange reserves to address the problems in the financial sector. Inflation will decline if the efforts taken to resolve the issues in the financial sector bring positive results," the governor said at a roundtable titled "Where do we want to see the banking sector?" organised by the Bangla daily Prothom Alo at its office in Dhaka. The government and garment factory owners have accepted an 18-point demand from garment workers. The decision came after a meeting of advisers, union leaders and representatives from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). Labour and Employment Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman announced the decision today at a press briefing at the labour ministry here. Four advisers of the interim government, union leaders and representatives from BGMEA were present at the briefing. The hill district of Rangamati is gradually returning to its normal state, shedding unrest, fear and anxiety. On Monday morning, CNG-run autorickshaws began operating on the city roads, with shops and shopping malls also reopening. Students will be able to take bus rides in Dhaka and other metropolitan cities by half fare seven days a week starting from Tuesday. In an announcement on Monday, Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association (DRTOA) said that to avail of this facility, applicable from 6am to midnight, students will need to either wear their uniforms or carry an identification card with a photo issued by their educational institutions.
