Students on Tuesday staged demonstration early Tuesday protesting the decision of Jatiya Party that had declared Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah, top two key coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, persona no grata in Rangpur. The agitated students brought out a procession from the Medical intersection of the city around 3:30 am and ended at the same point after parading different streets including Shaheed Mukhter Elahi Chattar and Check-post. The protesters were also found chanting different slogans. Later, they held a rally where the representatives of the student movement were present. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) launched a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) one-stop service centre for the Rohingya community in Coxs Bazar. Irma van Dueren, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, Fathima Nusrath Ghazzali, Acting Chief of Mission of IOM Bangladesh, and Md Shamsud Douza, Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner inaugurated the facility. The inauguration ceremony also featured a guided tour of the facility, cultural performances led by Rohingya artisans, and the award of certificates to the refugees who have completed psychosocial and protection skills development programmes. The results of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations held under 11 education boards of the country were published today as a total of 77.78 percent students passed this year. Of them, a total of 1, 45,911 candidates—64,978 male and 80,993 female-- got GPA-5 (maximum grade point average) in the examinations, according to the results published around 11am today. A number of 13, 31,058 examinees appeared in the HSC and equivalent examinations this year. Of them, 10, 35,309 students have been successful. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suspended national team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, citing his role in some issues that was unacceptable. The BCB president Faruqur Ahmed announced the decision in a jam-packed press conference today and also named West Indies Phil Simmons as the interim coach till the Champions Trophy 2025. "We have served Hathurusinga with a showcase notice and suspended him from the duty as head coach today," Faruque said here today.
