Lebanon Iran-backed Hezbollah group on Saturday confirmed its leader Hassan Nasrallah had been killed, after Israel said it had "eliminated" him in an air strike a day earlier. "Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, has joined his great, immortal martyr comrades whom he led for about 30 years," Hezbollah said in a statement. The government has planned to develop a blue network utilizing Dhaka canals, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, said in Saturday. This initiative will focus on revitalizing the canals that are still recoverable, she said. The Water Development Board (WDB) opened all the 44 gates of Teesta Barrage as the water level of the Teesta River has increased due to onrush of upstream water and torrential rains, inundating the low-lying areas in Lalmonirhat district. The local Water Development Board recorded 51.83 cm of water flow at Teesta Barrage point on Friday afternoon. Mohammad Rashedin, deputy-engineer of Water Development Board (WDB) Dalia point, said the Teesta was flowing below the danger level but due to the rise in water level all 44 barrage gates were opened. World Bank (WB) Group President Ajay Banga today said the global lender would provide US$ 3.5 billion to support reform initiatives of Bangladesh interim government. The WB president announced the assistance at a meeting with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the UN Headquarters here on Wednesday (local time). Banga, a long-time friend of Prof Yunus, said at least US$ two billion would be provided as fresh lending while another US$ 1.5 billion would be repurposed from the existing programmes.
