22 aspirants regain candidacy on last day of appeal hearing

Twenty-two aspirants of the upcoming national polls - whose nominations were initially cancelled by respective returning officers (RO) of their seats - got their candidacy back on the sixth and last day of the Election Commission (EC) appeal hearing.
Led by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, the EC delivered the verdicts after reviewing the appeals at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city Agargaon area this (December 15) afternoon.

Flower growers happy with business

The flower markets in capital city were buzzing during the celebration of 53rd Victory Day on December 16 as the country was liberated from the clutches of Pakistani occupation forces after a nine-month bloody war on the day in 1971.
Bangladesh Flower Society President Babul Proshad told that we have set target Tk.25 Crore for this victory day across the country. Flower farmers across the country, are happy as sale of their produce has soared ahead of the Victory Day celebration.
He said, “We were worried about the political unrest including Hartal and blocked programmes. However, the flower market has turned positive. People are buying flowers.”
According to the Bangladesh Flower Society, there are 18,000 flower growers and 30 thousand workers including packaging, laborer, van puller and workers in the country. They cultivate different types of flowers.

Bangladesh will never be handed over to collaborators of defeated forces: PM

Prime Minister and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina today said those involved in arson violence and uprooting rail line fish plates are the accomplices of the defeated forces of 1971, reiterating the pledge that the country would never be handed over to them.
"Those carrying out arson violence and uprooting rail line fish plate are the accomplices and collaborators of the defeated forces (of 1971). We will never hand over the country to the defeated forces," she said.
She made the remarks while presiding over a discussion marking the Martyred Intellectuals Day organised by the AL at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here.

Momen thanks UNESCO for inscribing Rickshaw painting

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Thursday thanked the UNESCO inscribing Rickshaw and Rickshaw Painting in Dhaka as Bangladesh fifth element of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
He expressed the gratitude while newly appointed Head of the UNESCO Office and UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh Susan Vize presented her credentials to the foreign ministry at foreign ministry here, a foreign ministry press release said.
The UNSECO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage inscribed Rickshaws and Rickshaw painting in Dhaka on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during its 18th session, taking place in Kasane, Botswana from December 5 to 9.
