Mild cold wave sweeping over parts of Bangladesh

A mild cold wave is sweeping over parts of the country, and it may continue, Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said on Saturday evening.
According to the regular weather bulletin, “Mild cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur division and the districts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Chuadanga and Kushtia and it may continue.”
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8.8 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur while the highest temperature was recorded at 26.8 degrees Celsius in Teknaf, reads the bulletin.

PM, new cabinet pay homage to Bangabandhu at Tungipara

TUNGIPARA: The new Cabinet led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his mausoleum here, marking installation of her government for the record fifth time and fourth consecutive term.
The prime minister first paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his grave in Tungipara.
A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the three services gave a state salute, while bugle played the last post on the occasion.

Two killed in Karwan Bazar slum fire

At least two people were killed and several others injured in a fire that broke out at Mollabari slum adjacent to FDC gate in the city Karwan Bazar area in the early hours of today.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
According to Fire Service and Civil Defence media cell official Anwarul Islam, 13 fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 3.40am, which broke out at around 2:25am.

FM vows to further strengthen relations with east and west

The newly appointed Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said that in his tenure, he would work to further strengthen Bangladesh relations with both eastern and western countries.
"The Prime Minister entrusted me with the responsibility of foreign ministry. We will move the country forward and brighten the country image, improve relations with the East and the West," he said.
He made the remarks after laying wreaths on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 along with the newly formed cabinet members.
