Rickshaws, rickshaw arts inscribed on UNESCO heritage list

Rickshaws and Rickshaw painting in Dhaka have been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage today inscribed Rickshaws and Rickshaw painting in Dhaka on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during its 18th session, taking place in Kasane, Botswana, from December 5 to 9.
Also known as Dhakar Rickshaw or Rickshawchitra, the motif of Rickshaw Art is an exceptional decorative art and decoration on the body of the vehicle in Bangladesh. The Rickshaw is a human-propelled transport on three wheels and is a recognised feature of Dhaka and Bangladesh, as a whole.

PCT operation agreement to boost Saudi investment in Bangladesh: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the concession agreement on operation of Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) between Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and Saudi Arabian company Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) will help further enhance Saudi investment in Bangladesh.
"This concession agreement is a testament to our two countries joint vision and steadfast commitment to economic cooperation and prosperity," she said.
The prime minister along with Saudi Investment Minister Khalid Al Falih witnessed the signing ceremony at her office here as CPA Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail and CEO of RSGT Jeans O. Foley inked the agreement.

42 aspirants appeal to get back candidacy

Forty two aspirants, whose candidacy has been cancelled, have appealed to the Election Commission to get back their candidacy on the first day today for contesting the upcoming general elections slated for January 7.
As per the EC schedule, applications were submitted from 10am to 4pm as the process will continue till December 9.
Appeals will be disposed between December 10 and December 15.

PM orders restoration of rivers, canals in capital, adjoining areas

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today directed the authorities concerned to take measures to restore all canals in the capital city Dhaka and its adjoining areas as well as Buriganga, Shitalakshya, Turag and Balu rivers as soon as possible.
The Premier issued this directive at a meeting on the presentation of the survey report and the policy decision for the adoption of the related project in light of the master plan designed to prevent pollution and protect the navigability of the rivers around Dhaka at the cabinet room of her office (PMO).
Prime Minister Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the reporters after the meeting.
