The government has decided to cancel all diplomatic (red) passports, including those allocated for former ministers and members of parliament (MP). It has already started the process of taking necessary steps in this regard, Md Mashiur Rahman, senior secretary of the security service division of the home ministry, told The Shuttle Times today. A discussion was held at the ministry in this regard recently, and an order will be issued within the shortest time. People living in Chattogram city as well as most part of the district experienced heavy rainfall in the last two days and they became panic assuming landslides. Normal life and all sorts of business activities remain halted due to incessant dazzling. Patenga meteorological office sources said they have measured 113.4 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 3 pm today. The met office is forecasting further moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours in Chattogram and some other parts of the country. The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has imposed a restriction on the transfer and sale of the shares of six banks – all owned by S Alam – by Mohammed Saiful Alam and 25 of his family members. The banks are: Islami Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, Global Islami Bank, Union Bank and Bangladesh Commerce Bank. The remaining Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams have been cancelled. The Ministry of Education has made this decision in response to the demands of the examinees.
