The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has celebrated Bangladesh Independence Day by illuminating its landmarks buildings including Burj Khalifa with the Bangladesh national bi-color. On the occasion of March 26, iconic landmarks including the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world in Dubai and the ADNOC headquarters in Abu Dhabi, were adorned in the vibrant red and green shades of the Bangladeshi national flag on Tuesday. "This symbolic gesture of solidarity serves to foster bilateral harmony and commemorate significant moments with Bangladesh," the UAE embassy said. Bangladesh and Bhutan today signed three new memorandum of understandings (MoUs) and renewed one to enhance mutual cooperation between the two neighbouring countries. The new MoUs are - Establishment of Special Economic Zone in Kurigram, setting up a Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit in Thimphu and technical cooperation on Consumers Rights. Besides, another MoU on cultural exchange was also renewed. Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said three new memorandums of understanding (MoUs) will be signed between Bangladesh and Bhutan while another MoU will be renewed during the visit of Bhutanese King Jigme Singye Wangchuck in Bangladesh. "We have multifaceted relations with Bhutan," he said this at a curtain raiser briefing at the foreign ministry here ahead of Bhutanese King four-day visit in Bangladesh beginning from tomorrow. KSRM authorities, owner of the hijacked Bangladesh-flagged cargo ship MV Abdullah, have initiated informal talks with Somali pirates through third party as part of their move to begin formal negotiation to rescue the 23 crew members as well as the ship. Somali pirates hijacked the ship with 23 crew member on board on March 12 when it was sailing from Maputo in Mozambique to Al Hamriyah in the UAE with 58,000 tonnes of coal.
