A total of 13,165 motor vehicles moved from Kawla to Farmgate through the Dhaka Elevated Expressway and gave over Tk 11,08,240 lakh as toll today. "Dhaka Elevated Expressway was opened for public to ease traffic congestion in the capital . .. . the traffic movement through the expressway started at 6 am today," project director of the Elevated Expressway AHMS Akter told journalists. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has been elevated to the rank of Senior Secretary. The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard today amending his contractual terms and conditions. According to the notification, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been given the senior secretary status for a total period of one year and six months from January 12, 2023 to July 11, 2024 after revising the notification issued on January 9, 2023 regarding the contractual appointment. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today inaugurated the much-awaited 11.5-km Dhaka Elevated Expressway Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport-Farmgate section for traffic that is expected to significantly reduce the city traffic congestion. She unveiled the nameplate of the expressway at Kawla end of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here. A munajat was later offered seeking welfare of the country and its people. Election Commissioner Md Anisur Rahman today said that the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections will be held in the first week of January next year. "We have not fixed the polling date yet. But we can assure that the next JS elections will be held in the first week of January in 2024," he said while speaking at the inaugural function of a training programme in the city. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal inaugurated the first phase of training of trainers (TOT) programme at Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in the city Agargaon area.
