Bangladesh gets IMF board approval for $1.12 billion in loans

The International Monetary Fund executive board has approved the third tranche of $1.12 billion loans.
Central Bank spokesman Mezbaul Haque confirmed the matter to The Shuttle Times.

The funds will be added to the reserves in two days.

Govt preparing list of loan defaulters: finance minister

The government is preparing a list of all the top loan defaulters in the individual and organisational categories, Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali on Monday told parliament.
The minister said this while replying to a query of reserved seat Awami League MP Farida Yasmin.
Farida wanted to know the names of the top 30 loan defaulters in both individual and organisational categories and how much money they have taken from banks and financial institutions.
The question-answer session was tabled with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali told parliament that total of 56 government organisations owe around Tk 51,391 crore to different public and private banks as of March 31.

Indian media covering Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina two-day visit to New Delhi and her talks with the Indian PM Narendra Modi highlighted the Teesta issue, a matter of concern for Bangladesh that has been outstanding for a long time.

Matiur removed from NBR; to be removed from Sonali Bank

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal President Matiur Rahman, also a member of the board, has been removed from his post.
He has been attached to the Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Finance Ministry, according to a ministry notification issued today (23 June). It said the decision will be effective immediately.
He will also be removed from the state-owned Sonali Bank PLC director post, Ziaul Hasan Siddiqui, chairperson of Sonali Bank, told reporters after a board meeting today (23 June).
