
Customers will no longer have to pay Value Added Tax (VAT) for purchases at the superstrores.
The retail price of the products will be the final price to pay, according to a National Board of Revenue (NBR) release.
The NBR VAT department issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.
The NBR authorities and the supershop owners took the decision following several meetings.
Earlier, VAT rates varied ranging from 1.5% to 5%, with a 7.5% rate applied during last year budget.

The government has sent 21 former deputy commissioners (DCs) into compulsory retirement due to their roles in the controversial elections held under the previous Awami League government, said Senior Secretary of the Public Administration ministry Md Mokhles Ur Rahman on Thursday.
“The officials had served as returning officers in the general elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024 which are widely criticised as controversial, unaccepted and day voting at night,” he said while talking to reporters at the secretariat.
“Those who served as returning officers in these polls played a very negative role. None of them protested, resigned, or refused to take part," he added.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 23 people, including former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman and economist Dr Abul Barkat, for allegedly embezzling TK 297 crore under the guise of the Enontex Group.
Deputy Director Nazmul Hossain at the ACC Dhaka Integrated District Office filed the case on Thursday, said ACC Director General Md Akhter Hossain.
The accused include high-ranking officials from Janata Bank, such as former Deputy Governor Abu Hena Mohammad Razi Hasan, former directors, and managing officials.
The charges involve creating false records through forgery and money laundering to embezzle loan funds in collaboration with officials from the bank.

Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today categorically said that India must provide due share of Teesta water if it wants to be friends of the people of Bangladesh.
“India must stop border killings and behaving like a big brother towards us...We want to stand on our own feet and get our due share of Teesta water…Of course, we want to see India as a friend and that friendship will be based on mutual respect and by paying dues,” he said.
The BNP Secretary General was addressing as the chief guest at a rally styled “Teesta River Protection Movement” at the Teesta Rail Bridge point in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila demanding fair share of Teesta water and implementation of the Teesta Mega Plan here this afternoon.
