Remittance inflow hits $425m in just 5 days

Bangladesh has been witnessing an upsurge in remittance inflow after the fall of Hasina regime. Expatriates sent $425 million in just the first five days of October. The central bank provided the latest data to the media on Sunday.
During the last month, Bangladesh saw $2.40 billion remittance inflow, which was the third highest monthly inflow recorded in recent years.
Bangladesh had seen the highest remittance inflow of $2.53 billion back in June. However, after the quota reform movement began in July, a remittance shutdown programme spread through the social media to create pressure on the Hasina government.

Flood damage cost Tk14,421cr in eastern Bangladesh: CPD

The recent floods in 11 districts in the eastern region of Bangladesh have caused estimated damage of Tk14,421 crore, around $1.20 billion, according to a study conducted by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD).
The private think tank presented the study report on "Recent Flood Damage and Rehabilitation Process in Eastern Region: CPD Analysis" at a media briefing at its office in Dhaka today (6 October).
CPD Executive Director Dr Fahmida Khatun and Research Director Khondaker Golam Moazzem, among others, spoke at the briefing while CPD Research Fellow Muntaseer Kamal delivered a presentation on the study.

Travel ban imposed on Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagrachhari for 23 days

A 23-day travel ban has been imposed on three hill districts of Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachhari, starting 8 October.
Shah Mujahid Uddin, deputy commissioner of Bandarban, confirmed this through a message sent to reporters today (6 October).
In his message, the DC mentioned that due to unavoidable circumstances, tourists have been requested to avoid travelling to Bandarban between 8 and 31 October.
He further clarified that the travel ban applies not only to Bandarban but also to all three hill districts.

2.31 lakh Indian eggs arrived

n a bid to stabilise the rising prices of eggs, the government has imported about 2.31 lakh eggs from India through the Benapole land port in Jashore. "The third consignment of 231,840 eggs arrived at the port today [6 October], " Masudur Rahman, revenue officer at the Customs Check Post Cargo Branch, told The Shuttle Times. He said the eggs would be cleared from the port as soon as possible after inspection.
