
As part of the “Bangla Blockade” under the ongoing anti-quota movement, protesters on Monday intensified their actions by blocking several major intersections throughout Dhaka.
Around 4:30 pm, students from Amar Ekushey Hall of Dhaka University and Sheikh Burhan Uddin Post-graduate College blocked the Chankharpul crossing and the adjacent ramp of the Mayor Hanif flyover.
This blockage disrupted traffic, creating significant congestion in the area.
Simultaneously, students from Dr Muhammad Shahidullah Hall and Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall of Dhaka University barricaded the Paltan crossing and Sikkha Chottor, further amplifying the impact of the protest.
Adding to the gridlock, other Dhaka University students targeted key intersections, including Shahbagh, InterContinental Hotel, Paribagh, Bangla Motor, and Karwan Bazar.

Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikya Parishad on Monday said 45 people were killed in 1,045 incidents of communal violence between July 2023 and June 2024.
The organisation released these findings in its latest report at a press briefing titled, “Report launching on torture and persecution of religious-ethnic minorities in Bangladesh in the past year” at Jatiya Press Club on Monday morning.
While reading out the written statement, Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of the organisation, said from July 2023 to June 2024, 10 people were targeted in attempted killings in various incidents of communal violence, 36 people were threatened with death, and 479 people were physically tortured during this period.

Hara Shohei, Senior Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), recently visited Bangladesh to commemorate the seven Japanese victims of the Holey Artisan Attack on July 1, 2016, at a memorial ceremony organized by JICA on July 3, 2024.
His visit also aimed to strengthen relations with the Government of Bangladesh.
During his stay, Hara Shohei engaged with different Ministers and government officials. He met Md Tazul Islam, MP, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, to convey appreciation for the cooperation on JICA-supported activities and exchanged views on existing and planned activities.

A total of 22 individuals have been honored with "Agriculturally Important Person (AIP)-2021" for their outstanding contribution to agriculture sector in Bangladesh.
Agriculture Minister Dr. Md. Abdus Shahid formally handed over the awards among the 22 individuals as the chief guest at Osmani Memorial auditorium here, said a press release.
State Minister for Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury joined the ceremony as the special guest with Agriculture Secretary Wahida Akter in the chair.
