Polls schedule to be announced soon: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal today said that the schedule of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections will be announced soon as the polls must be held before January 29.
"We will announce polls schedule soon because it is the time for that. We have to hold the elections before January 29 at any cost," he told journalists after meeting President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban here.
Other election commissioners and the secretary of the commission were present at the meeting. The election commissioners went to Bangabhaban to apprise the President of the preparations for the election.

Price of vegetables declines in city markets

The prices of most vegetables have declined in the city different markets as the country is witnessing a plentiful supply of early varieties of winter vegetables over the last two weeks.
As prices of most of the vegetables, including bean, aubergine, radish, cucurbitaceous plant, yard long bean, cauliflower, cabbage, papaya, okra, bitter gourd, bottle gourd, sweet gourd and green chili, have declined by Tk 20-30 compared to the prices, found two weeks before.
"Prices of per kilogram of vegetables maximally rose to Tk 80-120 in the city markets two weeks ago while the cost is currently declining significantly," said Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, a vegetable retailer at Hazrat Shah Ali kitchen market, Mirpur-1.

EU, Commonwealth, NDI are keen to observe national polls: EC

Three international organisations have already expressed their interest to observe the upcoming general elections in Bangladesh, said the Election Commission (EC) today.
The international organisations are European Union (EU), Commonwealth and NDI (National Democratic Institute).
Among these election observers, the pre-election assessment mission of the Commonwealth will hold a meeting with the EC on November 19. Besides, pre-election evaluation teams from two other organisations have already arrived in Bangladesh and held meetings with the EC.

Tk 12,500 announced as minimum wage for RMG workers

The minimum wage for the RMG workers has been fixed at Taka 12,500.
This decision was taken today in the 6th meeting of the Minimum Wage Board formed to increase wages of the RMG workers.
Later, State Minister for Labor and Employment Monnujan Sufian announced the minimum wage for garment workers at a press conference held at Bangladesh Secretariat.
She said, "We were announcing this new wage following instructions from the Prime Minister. The minimum wage will increase by 56.25 percent. It will increase from Taka 8,000 to Taka 12,500 with annual 5% increment."
