Panic among train passengers, 5 trains suspended

5 pairs of local trains have been suspended to avoid vandalism in the ongoing strike-blockade in Bangladesh. These trains have been stopped as the night movement is considered dangerous.
Divisional Railway Manager Shafiqur Rahman told reporters at Kamalapur railway station on Friday afternoon.
The trains are- Uttara Express on Rajshahi-Parvatipur route, Ishwardi to Rahanpur, Dhaka to Narayanganj, Mymensingh to Bhuapur local train and a train from Jamalpur to Sarishabari.

Anarchic acts to thwart polls wont be tolerated: DMP chief

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman today reiterated that any kind of anarchic activities and vandalism in the name of political programmes would not be tolerated.
"Troublemakers will be dealt with an iron hand if they try to disrupt the election process on the polling day on January 7," he told BSS.
Rahman said a vested quarter is making evil attempts to create an unnatural situation over the national elections, but the police would make its all-out efforts to ensure a fair, free and peaceful election.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Thursday said Bangladesh will follow the American minimum hourly wage as stability instead of conflict to keep the wheel of development going.
He said, Awami League always maintain the peace and stability for developing the democracy.

Election will be competitive, free and fair: CEC

RAJSHAHI: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal today categorically said the forthcoming 12th parliament elections will be competitive, free and fair and there is no doubt about it.
"We are putting our level best efforts to make the election proper, peaceful and successful to attain the trust and confidence of the voters in general," he added.
The CEC came up with the observation while sharing views with the candidates of all six constituencies of the district at local Circuit House here as chief guest.
CEC Kazi Habibul Awal expected that the election will be proper as the voters will come to the centres to exercise their rights after five years spontaneously.
