
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on rallies, processions, demonstrations, and gatherings at Kamarpur, Abdullahpur, Uttara Sector-10, and adjacent areas along the southern and western banks of the Turag River.
The ban was imposed following violent clashes between two groups at the Biswa Ijtema ground in Tongi on Wednesday that left two people dead and many injured.
The restriction, effective from 2 pm Wednesday, will remain in place until further notice, according to a public notification issued by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali.
The ban has been enforced under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance (Ordinance No. III/76) to maintain discipline in light of the prevailing situation, it said.

The High Court (HC) today declared scrapping of the caretaker government system in the constitution as illegal.
A HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Ray Chowdhury pronounced the judgment also restoring the provision of referendum in the constitution.
The court on December 4 concluded the hearing on the plea against scraping of the caretaker government system through the 15th amendment of the constitution and fixed today for declaring the judgment on the issue.
Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, after pronouncement of the judgment, told the journalists that the High Court has declared the scraping of caretaker government provision in the constitution as illegal and from now on the caretaker system is part of the constitution.

Thailand is simplifying travel for Bangladeshis with the introduction of its e-Visa service, making the visa application process more convenient and efficient.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka announced in a statement on Monday that e-Visa service will be launched for Bangladeshis from January 2, 2025
Bangladeshi official passport holders will be exempt from visa requirements starting December 19, 2024, it also said.
