Remal loss estimated at Tk 6,880cr: Mohibbur

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohibbur Rahman on Sunday said the losses caused by Cyclone Remal was estimated at 6,880 crore by his ministry.
The state minister said this after an inter-ministerial meeting held at the secretariat on the overall issue of the cyclone.
Another inter-ministerial meeting will be held on June 9 to assess the overall damages caused by the cyclone, he said.
“We will finalise the list of losses of all ministries by holding another inter-ministerial meeting on June 9. It will then be handed over to the prime minister,” he said.

Evaly Rassel, Shamima sentenced to one year in jail

Evaly Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rassel and his wife, Evaly Chairman Shamima Nasrin, were sentenced to one year in jail in a cheque dishonour case.
The couple has also been fined Tk1,80,000.
Joint District and Sessions Judge of Chattogram Md. Mohiuddin handed down the imprisonment in the case filed in 2021 by a customer of the scam-tainted e-commerce platform.

Earthquake of magnitude 5 jolts

A moderate earthquake jolted parts of Bangladesh including Dhaka on Sunday.
The earthquake, measuring 5 magnitude on the Richter Scale, was felt at 2:44pm which lasted for a few seconds, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The earthquake jolted Dhaka, Rangamati, Cumilla, Coxs Bazar and Khagrachhari districts, said Farzana Sultana, assistant meteorologist of BMD.
