Ride-hailing services: 300,000 women likely to join Dhaka workforce by 2028

The ride-hailing services are playing a significant role for women to access the workforce as nearly three lakh women are expected to join Dhaka workforce by 2028 as per a study report released on Thursday.
Uber, Bangladesh most preferred ride-hailing app, released the research report that sheds light on the transformative role of ride-hailing platforms in empowering women and fostering economic opportunities in Bangladesh.
The industry report, titled “Ride-Hailing: A Platform for Women Economic Opportunity in Bangladesh,” unveils a compelling view of how these services are playing a transformative role in bringing more women into the workforce.
The study reflects how ride-hailing services have become a vital vehicle for women to access the workforce or move up the ladder to achieve financial independence.
As per the projections of the study, access to mobility could increase female workforce in Dhaka by over 13% by 2028 and nearly three lakh women will join Dhaka workforce with a ride-hailing boost to women.

Action against polluting factories to begin after Eid-ul-Azha: Saber

Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Saber Hossain Chowdhury today said tannery industries of Savar would not allow pollute environment considering the public health.
Timeline will be enforced to start setting up Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) in the factories, he said while addressing a special meeting on controlling pollution of BSCIC Tannery Industrial Estate at its auditorium at Hemayetpur.
Saber said the activities of cancelling environment clearance of illegal factories will begin after Eid-ul-Azha. The environment ministry and industries ministry have agreed to work on the issue to curb pollution, he said.

Massive fire breaks out at S Alam sugar mill

A fire broke out at S Alam Refining Sugar Industries Limited at Isanagar in Karnaphuli upazila of Chattogram on Monday.
Shoaib Hossain Munshi, warehouse inspector of Karnaphuli Fire Service, said the fire broke out at the sugar mill, owned by S Alam group, around 4 pm and spread soon. On information, 10 firefighting units rushed to the spot and are trying to tame the blaze.
The ferocity of the blaze has posed significant challenges to the firefighters, as they struggle tirelessly to gain control over the raging flames. The precise cause of the fire remains unknown, leaving authorities to speculate on its origins.
Amidst the chaos and destruction, there have been no reports of casualties thus far. However, the extent of damage to property and infrastructure is yet to be assessed fully.
Local residents and bystanders have been urged to exercise caution and cooperate with emergency services personnel as they work diligently to bring the situation under control.

Modi conveys condolences for victims of Bailey Road fire

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep shock over the loss of lives due to the fire at Dhaka Bailey Road that has claimed 46 lives so far.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in the fire at the Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall in Dhaka.
He also wished speedy recovery to those injured.
In the letter dated 1 March, the Indian Prime Minister further affirmed that his country stands with Bangladesh in this hour of grief, and his thoughts and prayers remain with her and the friendly people of Bangladesh.
