
Most areas in Sadar, Shibchar, Kalkini, Rajoir, and Dasar upazilas of Madaripur district have been without electricity since Friday night due to fault in power line amid torrential rains, causing suffering to people.
The 4G-network of mobile phone operators has remained suspended since Saturday and the presence of battery-run three-wheelers on roads is also so thin due to the disruption in power supply for the past 42 hours.
Locals said that though the rain and wind started Saturday morning, the power supply has been suspended since Friday night due to fault in supply line.
Admitting the power outages in the district, Rural Electricity Board Zonal Manager Mohammad Jonab Ali said power supply is normal in some areas of the district town while other parts and the upazilas have now electricity.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today presented an artbook on the graffiti on the roadside walls in Bangladesh to a visiting US delegation during a meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna here.
The Chief Adviser commissioned the artbook immediately after he was sworn in as the head of the Interim Government on August 8.
The book carries photos of some of the finest art works drawn by the students and young people on the walls of Dhaka and other cities and towns marking the fall of the autocratic regime in the July-August student-people uprising.
Prof Yunus spoke about the historic significance of the graffiti, which depicted emotions, hopes, and aspirations of the students and youth who participated in the protests against the fascist Sheikh Hasina regime, defying the brute forces.

Incessant torrential rains starting early Saturday waterlogged nearly two-thirds of the city, paralysing city life and causing immense suffering to city dwellers.
According to local met office, 109-millimetre rainfall was recorded in the city in the last 33 hours till 3pm today (Sunday).
"It rained 109mm in the last 33 hours, including 45mm in last nine hours between 6:00am and 3:00pm today," said Md Amirul Azad, senior meteorologist at the Khulna Meteorological Office.
Situation is likely to improve from tomorrow, according to the weather forecast, he said, adding that cautionary signal No. 3 has been hoisted at Mongla Sea Port.

Malaysia has expressed support for Bangladesh proposal to join the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haznah Md Hashim said here today.
“Under the ASEAN framework, all 10 member countries hold equal status, and no one can unilaterally reject a membership bid. As a close friend, I can say that the doors will open for you one day,” she added.
The envoy was speaking at a lecture titled “Bangladesh-Malaysia Relations: Moving Towards Prosperity,” hosted by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in the capital.
In her speech, the high commissioner reaffirmed Malaysia commitment to strengthening ties with Bangladesh.
