Sammilito Parishad clinches victory in clean sweep

Sammilito Parishad, led by Seha Designs BD Ltd managing director SM Mannan Kochi, on Saturday won the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) biennial elections for 2024-26 decisively, bagging all 35 directorship posts.
Under Sammilito Parishad and Forum, a total of 70 candidates took part in the elections held on Saturday in Dhaka and Chittagong.
Election officials said that a total of 2,226 BGMEA members exercised their voting rights out of 2,496 eligible members in the elections. Of them, 1,839 voted in Dhaka and 387 in Chittagong.
Sammilito Parishad bagged all 35 out of 35 seats, making history.

PM confers "Best Joyeeta Award-2023" to 5 women

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today conferred the “Best Joyeeta Award-2023” to five women in recognition of attaining success in different fields at the national level by overcoming difficulties and challenges.
The Premier handed over the award as the chief guest at a function in the city Osmani Memorial Auditorium, marking International Women Day-2024.
The best awardees are Anar Koli (economics), Kallyani Minji (education and employment), Komoli Robi Dash (successful mother), Jahanara Begum (repression prevention), and Pakhi Dutta Hijra (social development).
With State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Simeen Hussain (Rimi) in the chair, Secretary of the Ministry Nazma Mobarek delivered the welcome address.

Bangladesh thrash Bhutan 6-0

Bangladesh U-16 national eve football team contined their winning run as they thrashed lowly Bhutan by 6-0 goals in their third and last league match of the SAFF U-16 Women Championship scheduled held today (Friday) at ANFA Complex in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Bangladesh already reached final of the SAFF U-16 Women Championship and they will face either India or Nepal in the final match scheduled to be held on Sunday (March 10) at the same venue.
In the day match, Bangladesh began to dominate the play and took 2-0 lead at the breather.
Fatema gave Bangladesh a deserving lead in the 32nd minute while Kranuching Marma doubled the lead scoring the second goal for Bangladesh in the 35th minute.

Historic March 7 observed

The nation today observed the historic March 7 in a befitting manner, commemorating the landmark speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, which was touted as an indirect declaration of the country independence in 1971.
Awami League and different social, cultural and political organizations today paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi here, marking the historic March 7.
To mark the day, a joyful environment was created on the premises of the Bhaban at Dhanmondi road No-32 where people from all walks gathered with enthusiasm for paying respect to Bangabandhu.
