The total combined output in the entire Bangladesh economic corridor region is expected to increase from $32 billion in 2020 to $286 billion by 2050 in the business induced scenario (BIS) due to the intervention. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) today officially launched the Electronic Fiscal Device Management System (EFDMS) in a significant step towards enhancing transparency and expediting revenue collection in the country. Private firm Genex Infosys Limited will oversee the implementation of this system across diverse business establishments, serving as a pivotal support for VAT collection within commercial enterprises. The initial deployment of devices in Dhaka and Chattogram will enable seamless VAT collection from customers, alongside efficient storage and management. Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Jahangir Alam today said that the commission will recruit over nine lakh polling officers for the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections to be held in late December this year or early January next year. "Training will be imparted to these polling officials after announcing the election schedule," he told at a press briefing after an EC meeting at the Nirbachan Bhaban here with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal in the chair. Training schedule for the officials to perform duty in the 12th parliamentary polls and other elections has been approved at the meeting, the EC secretary said, adding that training programme will begin from the first week of September this year.
