1,151 BGB platoons deployed across the country centering polls

A total of 1,151 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed all over the country, including Dhaka city, to maintain peace and law and order during the upcoming 12th national elections with a view to making it free, fair and peaceful.
The BGB will work as a mobile and striking force to maintain peace and discipline across the country from December 29, 2023 to January 10, 2024 under In Aid to the Civil Power to support the local civil administration, a BGB press release said here today.

India wants to see peaceful election in Bangladesh: MEA

NEW DELHI: Terming election in Bangladesh as a domestic matter of the country, India today made it clear again that the people of Bangladesh will decide their own future through the polls.
"The election is a domestic matter of Bangladesh and we believe it is the people of Bangladesh to decide their own future," said Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), here.
Responding to a query at the Weekly Media briefing here, Bagchi said that as a close friend and partner of Bangladesh, India is like to see a peaceful election in Bangladesh and it will continue to support Bangladesh vision of a stable, peaceful and a progressive nation.

Momen would be happy if US applies visa policy on BNP

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said it would be better if the United States will apply its visa restriction policy on BNP men as they have been trying to resist the next general election.
"I would be happy if they (US) apply that (visa policy) on BNP," he told reporters at foreign ministry this afternoon.
On May 24 last, the US announced a new visa policy act to support Bangladesh goal of holding free, fair, and peaceful national elections.

Household income doubled in 6 years: BBS

Data from the latest Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) has revealed that household income has increased in the country while poverty and extreme poverty rates have declined throughout the nation.
The household average monthly income has increased in nominal terms to Taka 32,422 in 2022, from Taka 15,988 in 2016 and Taka 11,479 in 2010, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
In the final report of HIES 2022 launched today, the BBS made significant developments by selecting the quality enumerators, conducting residential training, Introducing CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing), improving data collection tools, substantially increasing the number of food and non-food items based on COICOP (Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose), and implementing continuous monitoring and supervision etc.
