EC sets Jan 7 for next JS polls

The Election Commission (EC) today set January 7, 2024 for the 12th parliamentary election.
"The voting of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections will be held on January 7, 2024" Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said while announcing the election schedule in an address to the nation on state-run television and radio.
The CEC said the last date for submission of nomination papers is November 30 and the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held between December 1 and 4. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature is December 17, he added.

1st phase of Biswa Ijtema to begin on Dec 2

The first phase of Bishwa Ijtema, a large congregation of the world Muslims, will begin on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi, on the outskirts of the city, on December 2.
The decision was taken at a meeting on law and order situation at the Home Ministry here today with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in the chair, Senior Public Relations Officer of the ministry Md Sharif Mahmumd Apu told reporters.
The followers of Maulana Jubayer will join the first phase of Bishwa Ijtema to be held from December 2 to 4 this year.
The second phase of the Ijtema will be held from December 9 to December 11, while the supporters of Indian preacher Maulana Saad Kandhalvi will take part in it.

PM hands over National Film Award-2022 to 32 recipients

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has distributed the National Film Award-2022 among 32 recipients in 27 categories in recognition of their contributions to the film industry.
This award giving ceremony was held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) here in the evening.
The national film award is considered to be the most prestigious prize given for films in Bangladesh.

PM opens, lays foundation stone of 29 dev projects in Khulna

KHULNA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today inaugurated and laid foundation stones of 29 development projects with total cost of 2593 crore here.
She opened the completed 24 development projects and laid foundation stones of five other schemes at a grand rally at Khulna Circuit House ground.
The inaugurated projects implemented by Public Works Department included- Genocide and Torture Archive and Museum Building, Civil Surgeon Office Building and Residence, Technical Training Center in Paikgacha upazila, Renovation and Modernisation of Khulna Apprentice Training Office, 10-stroey building of Khulna and Chattogram BSTI Regional Offices, 10-storey women hostel building, Paikgacha upazila sub-registry office building construction (Civil, Sanitary and Electrical) works, and a 4-storey boys hostel construction of Agricultural Training Institute at Daulatpur.
