Govt. to reform media based on commission report: Nahid

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Nahid Islam today said initiative would be taken to reform the media on the basis of the report of the Media Reform Commission.
Adviser Nahid said this in a meeting with a delegation of UNDP and UNESCO in his office at Posts and Telecommunications Division, according to a ministry press release.
Nahid Islam, also Adviser of Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, said, media is one of the pillars of democracy and that is why Media Reform Commission has been formed by the interim government to ensure media freedom.

No industry would be allowed to shut for guilty entrepreneurs: BB Governor

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur said that the central bank will not allow any industries to be closed for the fault of its entrepreneurs.
He said the institutions are national assets. Here, arrangements will be made to run the institutions whether the actual owner is there or not. Because many people are working in these institutions, they (companies) have a relationship with banks as they have a relationship with manufacturing, which cannot be separated.
The governor said this while speaking at a press conference at the central bank headquarters on Monday to brief journalists on the latest update on the banking sector.
He said Islami Bank is a turnaround and the bank collected around Tk5000 crore under the new board of directors restructured by the BB.

TIB wants interim govt to announce time-bound roadmap for reforms

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Monday recommended that the interim government announce a state reform strategy with specific and time-bound roadmaps.
“We think that still there is time to formulate a strategy with specific roadmaps and move forward following it,” said TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman at a press conference.
The press conference was arranged at its office in the capital Dhanmondi area to share TIB observations over the first 100 days of new Bangladesh after the fall of the authoritarian regime.

6 grenades, ammo recovered in city

Police have recovered six hand grenades, nine magazines and 726 bullets from Banani DOHS area.
Tipped off, a team of Cantonment Police conducted a drive in the area and recovered the firearms, grenades and bullets from near the bank of No 5 Road Lake in an abandoned condition around 7:30 pm on Sunday.
On information, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) units rushed to the spot and made the hand grenades inactive.
