190 eminent citizens castigate US envoy remarks on visa sanctions on media

A total of 190 eminent citizens expressed grave disappointment, at a recent statement issued by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter D Haas, where the envoy announced that media persons would fall under the recently imposed visa sanction.
"We are deeply disappointed, at a recent statement issued by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter D Haas where the envoy announced that media persons would fall under the recently imposed visa sanction," reads a press statement of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC).
The statement has been signed by 190 eminent citizens including writers, rights activists, minority community leaders, freedom fighters, martyred intellectual family members, anti-war crimes campaigners, journalists, cultural activists, among others.

Newly developed dengue vaccine to be used after completing all trials: Maleque

MANIKGANG: Health Minister Zahid Maleque today said recently developed dengue vaccine is still under trial stage, and it will be vaccinated after getting approval from the World Health Organization (WHO).
The dengue vaccine, developed by ICDDR,B, and the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont (UVM), requires more trials and WHO approval for clinical application against dengue disease, he told journalists at his residence at Gorpara village in Manikganj upazila of the district.
"No country in the world develops dengue vaccine - - - when trials of the dengue vaccine are completed, we will seek approval from the WHO," he said, adding that the dengue vaccine will be used against the mosquito-borne disease after getting permission of the WHO.

First shipment of uranium being taken to Rooppur plant

The first batch of fresh uranium, the nuclear fuel of the first unit of Rooppur nuclear power plant, is being taken to the project site at Rooppur in Ishwardi in Pabna by road from the capital city Dhaka.
According to official sources, the consignment of uranium arrived here from Russia on Thursday afternoon through a special air cargo.

Successful trial of dengue vaccine conducted in Bangladesh

ICDDR,B, and the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont (UVM), jointly conducted trial of dengue vaccine for the first time in Bangladesh.
ICDDR,B, and the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont (UVM), are the first to study a promising tetravalent dengue vaccine in dengue-endemic Bangladesh, said a press release today.
Their work, evaluating the single-dose tetravalent dengue vaccine candidate TV005, demonstrated safety and immune responsiveness in children and adults, it said adding the accompanying study was recently published in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases.
