Focus on people economic wellbeing for a fantastic election: Debapriya to govt

Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Distinguished Fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya has underscored the need for a more careful, energetic and sensitive approach to addressing the economic situation of the common people if the interim government intends to achieve ambitious reforms and hold a successful national election.
“If you want to really have ambitious reforms in the future and if you want to have a fantastic national election at the end of the line then you need to look at the economic situation much more carefully with more energy and more sensitivity for our people,” Debapriya said on Thursday.
The eminent economist made the remarks while delivering the keynote speech at the Distinguished Lecture Series: “The State of Bangladesh Economy: What Is To Be Done?” at a city hotel.
The Bay of Bengal Institute and Cosmos Foundation jointly organised the event.

Inflation in Bangladesh climbs to 11.38% in Nov

The general point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh rose in November reaching 11.38 percent, up from 10.87 percent in October 2024.
This rate is the highest in the last four months.
According to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the increase was driven by a rise in food inflation, which jumped to 13.80 percent from 12.66 percent.

BNP Rizvi calls for Indian product boycott

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday has called for a boycott of Indian products in protest against the desecration of the national flag of Bangladesh and the attack on the Assistant High Commission in Agartala.
"Those who tear down our country flag... we will boycott their (Indi) products,” he said while addressing a function in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

ICT bans dissemination of Hasina inflammatory remarks in media

The International Crimes Tribunal has imposed a ban on the dissemination of inflammatory remarks by Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the media and on social media platforms.
A three-member bench, led by Tribunal Chairman Justice Mohammad Golam Mortuza, issued the order on Thursday.
The Tribunal also directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the remarks from digital platforms.
