Young Tigers crush India to retain Asia Cup title

Bangladesh Under-19 proved their intention to come all guns blazing against India preciously right as they thrashed the mighty sub-continent opponents by 59 runs to retain the Asia Cup trophy at Dubai International Cricket Stadium today.
Azizul Hakim Tamim-led Bangladesh were bowled out for just 198 runs in 49.1 overs but the low total could not deter them. They clawed back strongly with the pacer Iqbal Hossain Emon (three wickets for 24 runs) leading India rout in bowling to dismiss them for 139 runs in 35.2 overs.
Hakim could not do anything worthy with the willow in the most crucial game, a thing that was the reason behind Bangladesh meager total. But he amended with the bowling to scalp three wickets for eight runs.
No India batters could cross 30 runs mark with the highest 26 coming from the willow of Indian captain Mohamed Amaan. Hardik Raj put some resistance towards the end but Hakim trapped him leg-before for 24.

Govt approves new banknote designs featuring heritage, monuments

The government has officially decided to change the designs of the Tk 20, 100, 500, and 1000 denominations.
This decision was approved in a meeting of the Bangladesh Bank board with Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur in the chair on Sunday, said its spokesperson and Executive Director Husne Ara Shikha on Sunday.
Speaking about the approval, Shikha said the new banknotes will feature updated designs.
If all goes as planned, Shikha said, the new notes will be available in the market within six months.

Dhaka keen to boost ties with New Delhi: CA Press Secy

Bangladesh is interested to enhance relations with India, Chief Adviser Press Secretary Shfiqul Alam said today.
"We have linguistic, historic and cultural linkages with India. We, of course, want to reach our relations in a better position with India to benefit both the people," he told a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here this evening.
Alam, however, said the Bangladesh-India relations should be based on equity, fairness and dignity. India is a big neighbour of Bangladesh while it shares many rivers with India, he said.
About the issues to be highlighted at Bangladesh-India Foreign Secretary meet to be held in Dhaka, the press secretary said all issues related to mutual interest will be discussed during the meeting.

BB decides against another hike in interest rates

The review meeting of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) monetary policy committee (MPC) has decided not to increase the policy interest rate for the time being.
The committee acknowledged that although inflation remains elevated, the monetary policy stance is on the right track and there is no immediate need to raise the policy rate further.
The MPC assessed the current macroeconomic situation, challenges, and outlook from domestic and global perspectives.
Moreover, the MPC focused on reviewing the current inflation trend and outlook, economic activities and growth prospects, recent financial market developments, and developments in the external sector.
