Modern luggage van facilities connected with railways: Sujan

Railways Minister M Nurul Islam Sujan today said modern luggage van facilities have been linked with railway communications aiming to provide diversified services to the common people.
“Modern luggage van has been equipped with intercity train as fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, flowers, perishable items like fish, meat, milk and medicine could be transported through the railways”, he said.
The minister told this to the journalists before inaugurating the installations of modern luggage vans with Sylhet bound intercity train Joyantika Express at Kamlapur Railway Station here.

Tazul seeks global steps for funding, tech transfer in climate adaption

LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam called upon the global leaders to take bold and strong measures for funding and technology transfer for climate change adaption.
"It is the duty of the international community to extend cooperation to the developing nations in fighting against climate change. Partnership and solidarity should be strengthened worldwide to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future leaving no one behind," he said.
He made the call at high-level 2023 P4G Columbia Summit in the Colombian capital of Bogota on Saturday, said a press release here today.

WB approves US$300m to help Bangladesh improve secondary education

The Board of Executive Directors of World Bank (WB) has approved US$300 million to help Bangladesh recover from learning losses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The support will also introduce complementary online learning blended with in-class education to build system resilience, improve learning outcomes and teaching quality and reduce the dropout rate in secondary education.
"Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in education over the years and was among the first few developing countries to achieve gender parity in lower secondary school. But, the prolonged school closure during the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profoundly negative impact on learning and forced many poor girls to leave school," said Abdoulaye Seck, WB country director for Bangladesh and Bhutan.

Remain alert so no anti-independence quarter can assume power: President

President Mohammed Shahabuddin today asked all pro-Liberation forces to remain alert against the anti-independence quarters so that they cannot come to power in any way.
"Stay alert so that no anti-Liberation force can come to power," the President told the opening ceremony of the "Sixth National Conference" of the "Sector Commanders Forum - Liberation War 71" at Osmani Memorial Auditorium here.
Shahabuddin, also a valiant freedom fighter, added: "I believe we will all move forward unitedly and we have to work together... to oppose those who are plotting against Bangladesh independence and its ongoing progress."
